Do I need an appointment?

We do recommend that you contact us to schedule an appointment for car repairs.

While we may be able to fix small problems the same day, such as a flat tire or an oil change, most repairs take more time, and scheduling them works best for most customers, and your mechanic.

We want to be sure we have the right amount of time to focus on your car!

How often do I need my oil changed?

The answer to this question is different for everyone, and every vehicle.

It depends on your specific vehicle and individual driving habits.

We recommends oil change service every 3,000 miles, but your owner’s manual will have specific recommendations for you.

How often should I rotate my tires?

Most tire manufacturers recommend you rotate your tires every 6,000 miles.

What should I do about my Check Engine light?

If your check engine light is on, your vehicle reporting an issue.

The light indicates that a trouble code has been stored inside the history in your vehicle’s on-board computer, or ECM (Engine Control Module.) You need to have that code scanned and interpreted; from there, the diagnostics can begin.

While the car’s computer does not actually say what the specific problem is, it will indicate what system has experienced the malfunction, as an example, the ignition, emission or fuel-related.

From there, our ASE-Certified mechanics can start troubleshooting to determine the cause of the problem.

How often do I need a tune-up?

Most manufacturers recommend around 60,000 miles, but this varies by vehicle and manufacturer.

We can look up what is recommended specifically for your vehicle to ensure it stays properly maintained.

Can I bring my vehicle to Jamestown Auto even if it’s under warranty?

Yes! You don’t have to return to the dealership for maintenance or repairs. Jamestown Auto can perform all of the same routine maintenance your dealer can do.

However, if you need warranty work done, we can even contact the dealer for you to make sure the work is warrantable and then explain to you what needs to be done, so you can take it back to the dealer. Warranty work is generally free of cost, so it makes sense to get that work done at the dealer.

Do you charge for estimates?

If your vehicle’s problem can be determined by visual identification, or during an initial road test, there is no charge for estimates.

If dis-assembly or test procedures are required to discover what the problem is there may be a diagnosis charge. Diagnosis fees pay for our ASE-Certified technicians’ time and for use of the high tech equipment needed to test modern vehicles.

You can use our online repair estimator to get a general sense of how much a repair may cost. However, we do really need to inspect and diagnose it in order to determine the true problem.

Do you use OEM parts?

Yes we do. We also use after market parts of equal or better quality.

Especially when we can save you time & money and not compromise quality.

We will gladly use OEM parts exclusively if you request them.

Do you provide towing?

Yes we do! If your car needs to be towed to the shop, we can arrange it for you. Please contact us.

Do you provide loaner cars?

Yes we do! We have a couple of loaner cars available for our qualifying customers.

Why should I change my fuel filter?

When fuel filters plug up, even a little bit, it makes your fuel pump work harder causing it to overheat and fail.

On newer cars, fuel pumps can easily cost $500 to even a $1000 to replace. Keep ’em clean!

Should I regularly replace engine coolant?

Yes. When coolant ages, it becomes acidic.

This can create problems when the acid starts to eat away your gaskets and seals.
